You need to be able to meet all of the eligibility requirements detailed in the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook, available at http://dfat.gov.au/about-us/publications/pages/australia-awards-scholarships-policy-handbook.aspx.

Applicants with a disability must meet all academic requirements to be eligible, including English level standards, and may be eligible for additional support to ensure their equal participation.

Country Specific Conditions

Candidates from Timor-Leste must also meet the following country-specific conditions:

  1. You are usually and currently residing in Timor-Leste, and have lived in Timor-Leste for at least five years (cumulative) since 1999, with some exceptions for applicants working for the Government of Timor-Leste (GoTL) in a third country
  2. If you have received a previous scholarship, including GoTL scholarships, you must have worked in Timor-Leste for a minimum of two years
  3. You cannot have citizenship of any developed country (exceptions may be made in some instances for Timorese citizens holding Portuguese citizenship)
  4. You must be applying to commence a new course of study at a level higher than your current educational qualification (Note: exceptions will be considered for Masters applicants who completed non-accredited Masters studies in Timor Leste)
  5. You must not currently hold another scholarship with the same benefits
  6. You must not have been terminated from a previous Australian Government scholarship
  7. Applicants employed as civil servants must:

    1. Apply for studies relevant to their current work and their organisation, and
    2. Applications must be endorsed by a senior government official e.g. Director General or National Director
    3. Qualification and English language requirements

        Applicants with a disability (for diploma studies only) must have:

        1. An English language proficiency of at least an IELTS overall score of 5.0 with no more than one band score less than 4.5, and
        2. Graduated from senior high school with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 7.00 or have graduated from the UNTL CBR diploma 1 with a GPA of at least 2.50
        3. Applicants for Bachelor studies must have:

          1. An English language proficiency of at least an IELTS overall score of 5.5 with no more than one band score less than 5.0 and
          2. Graduated from senior high school with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 7.00 or have graduated from the UNTL CBR diploma 1 with a GPA of at least 2.50
          3. Masters by coursework level applicants must have:

            1. A recognised undergraduate degree with a GPA of at least 2.75, or a GPA below 2.75 and work experinece in a relevant sector for a minimum of 2 years and
            2. Must have English language proficiency of at least IELTS score of 6.0 with no more than one band score less than 5.5 (or TOEFL equivalent)
            3. Masters by research and PhD level applicants must have:

              1. A GPA of at least 3.00, and
              2. Must have English language proficiency of at least IELTS score of 6.5 with no more than one band score less than 6.0 (or TOEFL equivalent)

                Applicants must either:

                1. possess a certificated copy of their original English language test (IELTS) results obtained after 1 January 2019, or
                2. Undertake an IELTS test organised by Australia Awards Timor-Leste.
