Graduate Internship program (GIP)

The COVID-19 pandemic depressed job markets globally with the result that returning Australia Awards alumni faced additional challenges finding work in 2020. In response to this issue Australia Awards Timor-Leste reintroduced a new and refreshed Graduate Internship Program.

The Graduate Internship Program supports the successful reintegration of Australia Awards graduates after they have completed their studies and returned to Timor-Leste.

The aim of the program is to further the successful re-integration of Australia Awards graduates by introducing them to professional working environments related to their area of study. Thereby enabling them to give back to Timor-Leste, whilst providing a pathway to future employment.

Since the program was reactivated in January 2021 it has placed nine alumni (five women and four men) from different disciplines with a range of institutions including the Government of Timor-Leste, civil society, Australian Government Implementing Partners, private sector and UN agencies. Since their placements started, these alumni have been busy soaking up their new work environment whilst sharing the knowledge and skills they gained from studying at world class universities in Australia.

Six interns have secured permanent positions in a range of organisations following their internship.
